The Pointe du Payré Accessible on foot only by following a 4.7 km coastal and forest path (allow 1.5 hours of walking), the Pointe du Payré offers a remarkable view of the estuary of the Le Payré river and Veillon beach.
Founded in 1198 by order of Richard the Lionheart and listed as a Historic Monument in 1927, the Royal Abbey of Notre-Dame de Lieu-Dieu was initially managed by monks of the Premonstratensian order who cultivated vines and exploited the marshes.
Since 2012, after a new change of ownership, it has been undergoing restoration. Guided tours are organized during the summer period.
Former saltworks dating back to Roman times, they were partly transformed into fish marshes by the monks of the abbey.
Today, it is a peaceful place that can be explored on foot or crossed by bike.
